Set up the structure

In eight bi-weekly lessons I will guide you to build your own detective story. All you have to do afterwards is fill in the blanks of your scenes.

We will discuss in week:

  1. Different genres in detective stories
  2. The stories behind the crime, the story of the victim and red herrings
  3. Planning the investigation of your detective
  4. Point of view and the rules of writing a detective
  5. The clues and witnesses
  6. Structure and pacing
  7. The characters of the victim, detective and villain and sidekicks or confidantes
  8. Where or when the story takes place

What you will get

You will get access to a private Facebook group where the lessons will be taking place every two weeks via Facebook lives. You will of course receive infinite replays of these lives within the group. Everything we talk about in this group, stays in this group.

There will be a weekly Q&A where you can ask me anything about the lessons. I will answer your questions then.

You will receive extra worksheets on almost every lesson to create characters, build back-stories and how to lay out the crime scene.

I will also provide story ideas you can use for your own detective story.

I will be your guide and coach for 4 months. We will be working closely together so you can get the most out of this course. This is why spaces are limited for this course.

I’ve always been fond of writing – and that’s putting it mildly! I love to write short stories, longer stories and I even published a book on how creative writing can help you solve unresolved issues.

I have a degree in Dutch literature, so I know how you build a story and I want you to benefit from my knowledge. I want you to write the story you’ve always wanted to write, because I feel the world needs more stories.

What they say

Elly

I think this course is very educative. Martha makes it fun and gives you the feeling she is really close in her facebook lives. The course gives you another view on writing.

Jedida

I have been working on my book for a long time and sometimes I get the feeling that I've started the impossible. This course gave me guidance to create more structure in my story. The theory gave me more insight in how to create suspense and keep the reader interested. Useful and fun course!

Erwin

I'd most certainly recommend this course to people who already have a story. This 'manual' helps you to get through your story and make new combinations. If you follow the tips, your book will come very close to a better end result. I am convinced that writers will become even better. Let's get published!

Claudia

This course is a pleasant mixture of fun assignments and essential ones to get your story to the next level. If you always got stuck on a good idea or some chapters then this course will help you get further. Martha is super enthousiastic and helps you get deeper into your story.

Astrid

From the first lesson it was clear to me that writing a book is something completely different. The assignments helped me to work on my story in a structured way. After the first two modules the structure was there and I knew: "If I change something here, it has consequences for the whole book." I have never gotten this far before.

Would you like me to put you on the waiting list?
